MAAIF, M-Cash Train Kitgum Farmers and Staff on E-Voucher System Under Climate Smart Agriculture Project
KITGUM: The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), in partnership with M-Cash Uganda Limited, has conducted a comprehensive training for farmers and district technical staff in Kitgum District on the E-Voucher Management System under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project.
The training, held at the District Council Hall in Kitgum, aimed at equipping farmers and district officials with practical knowledge on how to access agricultural inputs through the digital E-Voucher platform supported by the project.
According to Ms. Achola Alice the officer from M-cash stated that, the E-Voucher Management System is a digital platform designed to enable eligible farmers to directly access agricultural inputs in a transparent and efficient manner. The system is expected to enhance accountability, strengthen fiduciary controls, and improve traceability of government-supported inputs while allowing real-time monitoring of the distribution process.
Participants in the training included staff from the district Production Department, Community Development Officers, and personnel from the Natural Resources and Environment Departments. Representatives from farmer groups across the district also attended the training, with each group represented by two members. In addition, two representatives from each of the seven profiled fish farmer groups participated in the exercise.
Speaking during the opening session at the District Council Hall, Dr. Charles Oryem, a Senior Veterinary Officer working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, explained that the E-Voucher system is a digital platform designed to improve farmers’ access to agricultural inputs and enhance productivity.
He noted that the system forms part of government efforts to modernize agricultural service delivery under the Agricultural Cluster Development Project.
Dr. Oryem further informed participants that following the training, farmers will be able to begin paying their co-funding contributions and place orders for inputs through the system. He emphasized that all transactions conducted through the platform will be monitored by stakeholders in real time, which will enhance transparency and accountability in the implementation of the project.
He encouraged participants to actively engage in the training sessions so that they can effectively guide farmers in their respective communities on how to utilize the E-Voucher system and benefit from the government program.
District officials noted that the capacity-building initiative is expected to strengthen farmers’ access to climate-smart agricultural inputs, improve agricultural productivity, and enhance accountability in the implementation of the Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project in Kitgum District.
District leaders also reiterated that the adoption of digital systems such as the E-Voucher platform forms part of broader efforts to modernize agricultural service delivery and ensure that government-supported interventions reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently. Ends.
