KITGUM DISTRICT JOINS NATIONWIDE LAUNCH OF NATIONAL CLEANING DAYS
Kitgum, Uganda – Kitgum District leaders joined the rest of the country in the official launch of the National Cleaning Days campaign, reaffirming their commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness, proper sanitation, and public health.
The launch brought together political leaders, technical staff, and members of the community in a collective effort to improve hygiene and encourage responsible waste management across the district. The exercise involved cleaning public spaces and sensitising the public on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Among the leaders who participated in the launch were the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Komakech Walter Oyoo, and the Mayor of Kitgum Central Division Mr.Tolit Geoffery, who led residents in the clean-up exercise and called upon communities to make cleanliness a continuous practice rather than a one-day event.
Speaking during the launch, Deputy RDC Komakech Walter Oyoo commended residents for turning up in large numbers and emphasised that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility. He urged all households, institutions, businesses, and local leaders to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean, noting that a clean environment helps prevent disease outbreaks and promotes healthy living.
The Mayor of Kitgum Central Division encouraged residents to embrace the National Cleaning Days initiative by organising regular community clean-up activities, properly disposing of waste, and maintaining clean markets, streets, schools, and public facilities. He noted that cleaner communities enhance the image of the district and contribute to sustainable development.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Komakech Walter Oyoo stated that National Cleaning Days campaign is a Government initiative aimed at promoting regular community participation in environmental sanitation, reducing the spread of preventable diseases, and fostering a culture of cleanliness across the country.
Kitgum District Local Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the campaign and called upon all residents to actively participate in future cleaning exercises to ensure that the district remains clean, healthy, and attractive for all.
